Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach based on identifying emotions that determine individual choice and decision making. According to this form of therapy lacking emotional awareness or avoiding unpleasant emotions can cause harm. It may render us unable to use the important information emotions provide.
Therapists qualified in EFT can help individuals seek assistance with a range of concerns. These therapists aim to increase awareness and understanding of the individual’s emotions. EFT enhances an individual’s ability to utilise information provided by adaptive emotions and better cope with and decrease negative effects of maladaptive emotions. In this treatment approach, the therapist and the individual in therapy actively collaborate and both are viewed as equal contributors during the treatment.
